Lake Como Guide

As if Lake Como isn’t stunning enough with the cascading Italian Alps lining the crisp blue water, there’s a certain A list celeb roaming around too?! While we didn’t have a Clooney sighting on our Lake Como adventure, we did have some tasty Italian grub (can you say grub when referring to Italian food?! it seems inadequate..) and some jaw dropping views…

Arriving in Milan, we drove the quick one hour up to Lake Como starting our explorations in the namesake town of Como. Lunch at Osteria del Gallo was the perfect starting spot to break us in appropriately to Italy… no menus, just the two owners roaming around serving food and reciting what they knew of the day’s specials in broken English. Wine or beer? Choose one and you get what they bring out. We had an amazing chicken polenta dish and a meat ravioli, but that’s all I got for you…remember no menu.

From Como, we drove the SS583 along the lake to Bellagio, the city at the peak of the lake offering outstanding views of the area. You can also take a ferry from Como to Bellagio, or many of the other lakeside cities.

  1. Fab post – fab foodie photos – yum!
We are thinking of going to the lakes this summer, which would you recommend out of Como, Garda and Maggiore? And what would you recommend seeing in a 4 or 5 day trip?
I am challenging you to do a little comparison post ……….xx

    1. Well I’ve never been to Garda or Maggiore but I will say Garda was actually my vote for this trip! I was overruled and we did Como and it was certainly stunning and worth it! I’ll do some research though and have a better answer! 🙂
