Morocco is one of those places you could spend weeks traveling through and have such a wide variety of experiences! From the souks of the cities, to the crisp mountaintops, to the rolling desert hills. We decided to try a bit of all three on our long weekend escape to Morocco. Starting with glamping in the desert at the ultra chic Scarabeo Camp.
From Marrakesh airport, it is a quick 45 minute transfer to the Agafay region where Scarabeo’s clean white tents appear. The camp is set over a sprawling valley view of the desert…perfect for a relaxing sunset drink!
Arriving for lunch, we were seated under one of the gorgeous open tents reserved for meals. The colorful cuisine arrived quickly and we sampled the many traditional tapas-like dishes! This was our first taste of what would be many delicious meals in Morocco!
After a long lunch, we set off to explore our tents…Staying in the suite tents, we had a luxurious, spacious room with a seating area and large bed. Also, private bathrooms with western style toilets and shower facilities! Definitely worthy of the term “glamping”. The decor is so on target with the style of the camp — an old-world luxury style of the early Victorian explorers!
Our first day was a gorgeous sun shining day so lounging in one of Scarabeo’s many relaxation areas was a must! We sipped on afternoon mint tea and played backgammon–enjoying the peace and quiet that you can only find in these remote type locations! Also, no wifi here makes for an excellent excuse to have a social media timeout!
Watching the sunset with Moroccan rose was one of my favorite moments of the weekend! The gorgeous colors lighting up the desert landscape made for some pretty stunning photos too…
We enjoyed a very typical Moroccan dinner of … in the dining tent by candlelight. After stuffing ourselves silly, we headed to the fire pits to enjoy the warmth and stargaze on the endless sparkles lighting up the night sky! With only the light of the stars and the lanterns, it makes for early evening in the desert and we headed off to bed.
The rise of the sun the next morning was the only alarm clock we had and the crisp, cool morning had me snuggling in my gorgeous silk robe…
And then headed right for a hot coffee! Delicious traditional breakfast followed and then off for a desert adventure…
Camel rides in the morning sun! The hour long ride through the desert offered stunning views of not only the camp but also the surrounding dunes!
Scarabeo also offers dune buggy tours, horseback riding, mountain trekking, and yoga classes. After all the activity, you can book a relaxing massage at the camp or just wait for the evening to stargaze!
After a most relaxing two days in the desert, we headed off to the bustling center of Marrakesh!
