Get to know me…

Last week I was nominated by the lovely Kelly from The Wandering Blonde for the Liebster Award….It’s an award for new bloggers to basically answer some serious travel questions about yours truly!

leibster award

leibster question 1 Europe. I love the history and the uniqueness of each region’s own history. I could never tire of aimlessly wandering down some European city street, eating whatever local dish they prepare the best, and learning something of value about the people that call that city home. Travel to me is so much about the people–the people that built the city, the people that fought for the city, the people that love the city and could never leave.

expected to love, but didnt Genuinely, I would say no. I am sure along the way I’ve been somewhere that maybe at first I was put off by, or maybe I didn’t like something specific about the place, but if you look hard enough you can find beauty in everything and everywhere. I would say that one of the hardest places for me to visit was Burkina Faso, Africa. At first, all I could see was struggle and heartache but again, after meeting real people, real Burkinabes, I understood the beauty in that place was the hope.

leibster question 1 Amsterdam. Not that I wasn’t overly enthusiastic, because I was excited but I never expected the absolutely jaw dropping scene that is Amsterdam with the canal flowing through the amazing Dutch architecture.

travel plans or flow I like to have a rough guide so you know, I don’t leave Rome and miss the Coliseum. Usually, I pick the hot spots that you can’t miss and then a few uncharted spots that are off the beaten path. the traveler

favorite accomodation Ti Kaye in St. Lucia. It was my honeymoon so I may be a little biased but it was the most incredible little cabana hanging over the cliffs looking out at the ocean.

favorite person My hubs, Ryan. He is a bonafide world traveler and I love that he doesn’t mind revisiting destinations with me. I think he actually *secretly* enjoys taking me to a city he has already explored. But on the rare occasion it’s a first trip somewhere for both us, we generally have the same expectations..we love walking everywhere (which can be rough at times, I have the blisters and scars to prove it!) but you get to really feel and experience the heart of the city and you may stumble upon a little treasure you might miss otherwise. We also both love markets and street food. And sadly, we could both sit and people watch for hours (which may be the break we need from walking! ?).

beaches, cities, mountains Cities. I don’t think people usually say this but…I love the feeling of being in a city. The endless wandering, the sights and sounds of people busy completing their day or exploring their way through it, how one second you’re in a neighborhood of busybody locals and then you can be exploring eclectic street art and grabbing fresh food at a local market and wandering through fresh green city parks….see I love it.

weirdest meal Well, it’s not that ^^. And if I’m truthful, I will try almost anything and I pretty generally like everything but I haven’t had anything very weird. Just basic weirdness.

packing tipPlan ahead. I have learned this from booking flights with carry on luggage only and suffering from a long history of over-packing. I know I need to look at the weather ahead of time and decide day to day outfits. Also, pack a few neutral items that can be re-worn, it saves space and who really notices?!

travel blogging I’m just starting out so I think I’m struggling most with insecurity around my content. I want to bring something valuable and inspiring to my readers…like you’re packing your bags because what I’m telling you is so good you just have to go!

favorite post The Rome Less Traveled. It’s about a few places in Rome that I think everyone should see, but I guess if everyone does, I’ll have to change the title. rome less traveled

So now you know WAY too much about me!

  1. Now this is a great post!I really enjoyed reading your answers! I’m with you on that packing tip; I started making packing lists as an outlet for my excitement pre-trip, and then I realized that it just make everything so much easier!
As a southern girl who just started blogging about world travel, I’m so glad I found your blog! You know I adore your logo!!

  2. Great to see how you’ve incorporated visuals in your answers. It makes it such a fun read! (not that it wouldn’t be interesting to read without the visuals of course. It just gives it that extra touch 😉 ) x Maaike
